Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 within Long Beach California. DuVernay was raised by her aunt Denise She encouraged DuVernay to become creative and instilled by the arts. She was a night nurse, allowing her aunt time that she required during the day for the love of writing, theatre and literature. DuVernay was introduced to the 1961 movie West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay discovered through her example the power of art as an instrument for social activism. DuVernay was raised by her mother who was well-informed and taught her how to make use of the arts to find a way to express herself. DuVernay had her summers spent in Lowndes County Alabama, where DuVernay's father was born and was raised. The DuVernay's father was a witness to the civil rights marches over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the local town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay was able to use the summers she was in Selma to help inspire her future film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the year 1990, DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. Following graduation, she went to her first year at the University of California Los Angeles where she received qualifications in English and African American studies. While she was still an undergraduate student DuVernay was interested in creating to television journalism. Her internship was with CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was recalled having the responsibility of looking over the family home, and then looking through the rubbish of one jurors. DuVernay was dissatisfied with her journalism tasks and decided to change to the public relations industry. DuVernay started her career as a junior publicity assistant at a small film studio, right after graduating from college. In 1999, she launched her own private company for public relations called The DuVernay Agency. The company also launched a variety of lifestyle and promotional networks, such as Urban Beauty Collective. Urban Beauty Collective.
